Honoring Volunteers During National Mentoring Month

More than 205 MEF volunteers and friends enjoyed the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party on January 7, 2016 at Seasons 52. MEF staff and Auxiliary Board members hosted the annual event to show volunteers across the organization gratitude for the time and dedication they give to MEF kids. The night included a complimentary evening of food, drinks, a raffle and camaraderie.

MEF staff presented Volunteer of the Year Awards to volunteers from Midtown, Metro and MEF. This award recognizes individuals who have shown outstanding commitment and dedication to the girls and boys of MEF. Sam Bell, who has been a One-on-One tutor for half a dozen years and currently serves as a room leader, received the award from Midtown. He is a guiding member of the Auxiliary Board and, just recently, joined the Midtown Advancement Council.

Metro honored Dr. Kathryn Duda, who has been advising high school juniors and seniors for the past five years. Having taught at the University level, she was able to identify gaps that many students have in academic skills and present solutions to help close them.

MEF honors went to Tad Brubaker and Sam Brilliant. Brubaker has been a tremendous advocate for MEF kids this year, being a part of MEF’s most successful golf outing, supporting MEF’s dinner and supplying all of the hams to Midtown’s Christmas baskets. Brilliant has guided MEF staff and board through an implementation of a new five-year strategic plan marking MEF's 50th anniversary in 2015. He and his wife give to MEF's leadership annual giving club, the Circle of Champions.

A very special thank you to Dover Corporation for donating the Cubs Suite that was raffled off, raising over $4,000 toward MEF programs, and congratulations to JD Cortese, the lucky winner! Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate, and thank you in advance to everyone who will volunteer for MEF kids in 2016.
