Midtown boys do Food Revolution Day and a road trip to the east coast for a college tour adventure

Learning to Eat Healthy
at Food Revolution Day

On Saturday, May 19th MEF was a featured partner for Food Revolution Day. Our very own PR intern Katie Wilkes represented Chicago as the city's Ambassador for Food Revolution Day, an initiative started by Emmy-award-winning TV chef and host Jamie Oliver. Six Midtown boys served as student judges in a chef cooking contest.

with Katie and reflections from Brian Parker, our Midtown Program Manager!

A College Tour Adventure

Midtown Center organized a road trip to UNC-Chapel Hill, Davidson College, and Georgia State.

Check out their photos and travel journal
, which includes some amazing first-time experiences for the students: visit to the beach, hiking, and drinking from a well that brings good luck!

Metro girls donate to Kenya youth, learn business, & travel abroad

Giving to Kenya Youth

With some mentorship from our staff, Strathmore University in Kenya modeled the Macheo Achievement Program after MEF. Metro Achievement Center tutors and the 9th and 10th grade girls were thrilled to be part of an international initiative that shipped books and supplies to Kenya. A letter from them expressed, "On behalf of Strathmore Community Outreach Programme, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your contribution."

Learning Business

'Business' was a new elective for 9th and 10th grade girls this year. The students discovered the various roles in business and marketing and learned how to make a business plan. "This was a great opportunity for the young ladies and the feedback and information that you shared will be helpful for them both now and in the future" -Business Class Instructor. They participated in mock interviews and presented their models to a panel of corporate women leaders from the Metro Advancement Council. "I really enjoyed it, and continue to be so impressed each time I have an opportunity to meet these incredible girls." -MAC Council member, and Mock Interviewer.
